Our Story

biergarten at nightWild Wolf Brewing Company, established November 11, 2011, is one of just a few mother/son operations in the country. Danny, a classically trained Brewmaster by the Siebel Institute in Chicago, and his mom, a business savvy entrepreneur, have turned a family passion for craft beer into one of the fastest growing breweries in Virginia. The brewery and restaurant is situated in the heart of the Brew Ridge Trail and features a wide selection of hand-crafted beers as well as the freshest local foods in Central Virginia—all in a century old, revitalized Nelson County school house.

The ten acre property features an authentic Biergarten, shaded by a protective canopy of 60-year-old Siberian Elms, including a charming gazebo, large Koi pond, and working water wheel. In addition, an outdoor pavilion has been enclosed to allow for a four season dining experience. The pavilion hosts live music every weekend year round. Inside the restaurant, guests are treated to a rustic dining experience, including wrap-around porches that provide stunning views of the surrounding mountains and property. Toward the back of the old schoolhouse guests enter the new building which houses a lively sports bar as well as our 15-bbl brewing facility.

We always have a selection of 10-12 house and seasonal beers on tap as well as 6-packs & 22oz bottles to-go. However, as much as we love beer, food does not take a back seat in this brewery. Executive chef Alex Alward and his experienced kitchen staff are using locally sourced ingredients to craft a menu that features house-smoked, beer-brined meats, southern staples like shrimp & grits, as well as gluten-free and vegan options. We bake all our own bread in house and even source our beef from a farm where the cattle are fed spent grain from our brewery. We offer a full menu seven days a week including brunch from 11am-2pm on Sundays and Happy Hour food and drink specials in the sports bar Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 9pm.

The only thing that is as important to us as the quality of our beer, food, and service is our commitment to the environment. Here at Wild Wolf we take every measure possible to reduce our carbon footprint. We can our 12oz beer to minimize raw material and maximize recyclability. All of the waste from the kitchen is composted and used in our on-site vegetable garden. The brewery only produces a single bag of trash per week! We grow our own hops on-site, boasting a 400 hill field of Cascade hops that are harvested seasonally and used in our ‘Primal Instinct’ IPA. The hop-yard is also home to our resident chickens that eat the pests and weeds while also providing fertilizer – enabling us to create a pesticide-free, sustainable environment (not to mention the amazingly delicious eggs they produce that we use in the restaurant). We also have a state of the art drainage field including an aerobic digester, an anaerobic waste reactor as well as vertical flow wetlands. This enables us to significantly conserve water and make sure the pristine mountain spring water we use in our beer stays that way.

So come visit us at the brewery or pick up some beer at your local store and remember to “Keep it Fresh and Drink Local.”
